Bulky Waste Program

Introduction

     From Thursday September 21, 2006 until Sunday October 8, 2006, the Public Works Department will hold its annual bulky waste and leaf and yard debris drop-off program.

 Purpose

     The Town of Windham has established a facility located at the Town of Windham Public Works garage located at 185 Windham Center Road. The purpose of this facility is to provide a convenient and organized way to dispose of acceptable bulky waste materials (as defined below), leaves and other yard debris. The Department of Public Works annually budgets for an annual drop-off of leaves and yard debris.

Schedules

    These are the dates and times that the Windham Public Works drop-off facility was open for Drop-off:

8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., for the following dates:

Thursday, September 21, 2006 through Sunday, September 24, 2006

Thursday, September 28, 2006 through Sunday October 1, 2006

Thursday, October 5, 2006 through Sunday October 8, 2006
 

    Here are rules and regulations that outline the "do’s and don’ts" of the bulky waste and leaf and yard debris components of the Town's solid waste management program.

Who is Eligible

Residents and/or property owners in the following categories ARE eligible to participate in the drop-off program.

  • All single family homes
  • All multi-units
  • All condominiums
  • Elderly housing

Who is NOT Eligible

Those in the following categories are NOT eligible to participate in the drop-off program.

  • Contractors
  • Commercial haulers
  • All commercial vehicles

Note on Eligibility

     Identification is required for residents using this program as they enter the facility. Residents or property owners having contractors haul their waste must accompany any load(s) of waste to ensure use of this program by Windham residents and property owners.

     Acceptable forms of identification include driver’s license or other photo ID, vehicle registration, property tax bill, or other identification showing name and physical address.

Fees

     Except as noted, there are no fees to participate in this program. Quantities of some materials are limited because of disposal costs. Please observe these limits.

     Propane cylinders 20 lb and larger will require a sticker for a fee of $20; appliances with refrigerant will require a tag/sticker for a fee of $10. E-waste (Computer monitors and all televisions only) will require a fee of $2.00 each.

     Stickers for disposal of these items will be available at the Town Offices during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) and Public Works Department (6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday) beginning September 11, 2006

  • Batteries (Passenger Car/Truck)
  • Box springs
  • Brush
  • Cabinets
  • Construction and demolition debris
  • Dehumidifiers ($10 fee)
  • Fax Machines
  • Fencing
  • Freezers ($10 fee)
  • Furniture
  • Hot water heaters
  • Large metal items
  • Large toys
  • Mattresses
  • Musical equipment
  • Monitors and TVs ($2 fee EACH)
  • Ovens
  • Propane cylinders: $1 each (20 lb and over, $20 fee)
  • Refrigerators ($10 fee)
  • Rolled carpet
  • Stoves
  • Tires, limit 8 (passenger car and light truck tires only)
  • Toilets, sinks, tubs, showers
  • Washers and dryers
  • Yard and tree waste
  • (Other bulky waste not specifically sited as unacceptable)

NOT acceptable bulky waste

  • Cardboard
  • Clothing and textiles
  • Hazardous waste
  • Household trash
  • Items in plastic bags
  • Liquid waste
  • Paper products
  • Any items disposable or recyclable under the Windham Recycles! residential curbside trash and recyclables collection program
  • Any other items which may be deemed inappropriate by the Public Works Director or designee

All bulky waste items delivered to the Windham Public Works drop-off facility must be properly sorted by type and placed into the appropriate piles at the site, as directed by the attendant. Failure to abide by these rules will result in expulsion from the facility. The facility attendant will be checking identification to make sure that each person is a Town of Windham resident or eligible property owner.
