FOOD ASSISTANCE

Maine Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) - application on line at www.maine.gov/dhhs

"Meals on Wheels”-meals for seniors call 1-800-400-6325 Southern Maine Agency on Aging www.smaa.org

Windham Senior Meals Site- lunches for seniors at Unity Gardens contact Virginia at 892-3891.

“Monday Meals”- a community dinner on most Mondays at 5:30pm. schedule- first and second Mondays of month at Assembly of God Church and third & fourth Mondays at Windham Hill UCC. For more information call Marcia York at 892-3769.

Windham Food Pantry- 892-1931 at Social Services building 377 Gray Road opens Mondays 5:30-7:00pm and for seniors only on Thursdays 9-10:30am. (Food Pantry always needs food items and cash donations. For needed Pantry wish list of items call 892-1931)

Free School Lunch Program- Lunches and breakfasts for students at Windham Schools application on line at www.windham.k12.me.us

FUEL ASSISTANCE
Windham Social Services- for fuel assistance call 892-1906 for appointment

“Neighbors Helping Neighbors”- a Windham community group that will provide assistance for emergency fuel for families in need. Contact Mark Bryant at 892-6591, Bill Diamond 892-8941 or Gary Plummer 892-6088.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Peoples Regional Opportunity Program (PROP) - runs WIC program a food voucher program for pregnant mothers, nursing mothers and children under
five call 892-1906 for an appointment.

General Assistance (PROP) call 892-1906 or 892-1931 for an appointment

Salvation Army Vouchers- emergency vouchers for food and medicines available contact Social Services at 892-1931.

EDUCATION/EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE
Windham Adult Education- offers a variety of services and programs- career advisors, career training courses and workshops, GED program. Computers
are available for job searches. Also assistance available for filling out applications for assistance, call for appointments at 892-1819. Scholarships available on limited basis for programs and workshops. Check web site at www.windham.k12.me.us/wsd_adulted or www.maineadulted.org

Windham Library- offers a variety of services at no charge to Windham residents. Use of computers for job searches and resume writing. Career handbooks and reference materials are available as well as their collection of newspapers and magazines. State and Federal tax forms are also available. The Library is a wireless area for your own computer use. For more information contact the Library is 892-1908 and www.windham.lib.me.us


OTHER ASSISTANCE
Clothes Closet on 377 Gray Road is open on Mondays 5:30 to 7:00pm. For more information call Social Services at 892-1931.

Loan Closet-the Loan Closet supplies wheelchairs and other equipment for medical and physical needs. Loan Closet is located on Windham Center Road next to Library. Contact Freda Scott at 892-6619 for an appointment.

Goodwill Store at 765 Roosevelt Trail 892-8463.

Windham Parks and Recreation Department- keep active and healthy through the recreation programs and special events offered through Parks and Recreation Department, trail maps of local park and conservation areas available and info on Dundee Park. Windham Human Services Building is on 377 Gray Road and includes general assistance, food pantry and clothes closet (details above)

PROP Office Hours
People's Regional Opportunity Program (PROP) runs the WIC program in Cumberland County, with outreach hours held in PROP's office in the basement of the Human Services Building (old police station) on Route 202 in Windham.

If people want to schedule appointments, they should call PROP's Portland office 874-1140.

Loan Closet
The Loan Closet supplies wheelchair and/or other equipment for medical/physical needs.

Contact - either Freda Scott at 892-6619 or Elsie Haskell at 893-2430. They will arrange to meet the person at the loan closet that is located on Windham Center Rd.

Food Pantry and Clothes Closet
Open on Mondays from 5:30-7:00 except on Holidays and can be used one time a month for Windham residents.

There are no makeup days when closed on Mondays due to a holiday. This is located at 377 Gray Rd. (Route 202) next to Public Safety Building.

General Assistance
A state mandated program for people who cannot make their basic necessities.

You may make an appointment with Social Services at 892-1906. If no one answers, please leave a message as to how you can be contacted. Either Maurice Geoffrey or Dana Gadd will get back to you. The new hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8-12 am and 1-4 pm only.

The Social Services Department is also located at 377 Gray Rd. (Route 202) next to Public Safety Building.
