Personal Property Taxation
The Assessor's Office is responsible for the valuation of all business equipment. This type of property is generally taxed where it is located. Included in this group would be store fixtures, manufacturing equipment and office furniture including computers. 
 
Owners of personal property will annually receive a declaration form that shall be used to update the Assessor's Office of the status of the personal property. Personal property is taxed at the same rate as real estate.

The taxation of personal property is somewhat complicated with the issues of taxable situs and exemptions. If you have any questions please call the Assessor's Office at 207-892-1903.
