WELCOME TO THE TOWN OF WINDHAM, MAINE
Are you from out of town and looking for a friendly and thriving community to live in?
Are you considering relocating your business?

Let us introduce you to the Town of Windham, Maine, population 17,001, just 10 miles from the City of Portland.

Windham is the gateway community for the Sebago Lakes Region thanks to numerous recreation opportunities, shopping, entertainment, and a relatively low tax burden.

In addition, North Windham, a major neighborhood in town, was named "Best Place to Raise Kids" in the state of Maine by Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine because of our low crime rate, unique mix of recreation activities, and an above-average school system.

This is what makes Windham the community you will want to relocate your family or your business.

TOWN OF WINDHAM NOW OFFERS DEBIT/CREDIT CARD PAYMENT OPTION
The Town of Windham now offers the convenience of accepting debit and credit cards for municipal payments.  All major cards will be accepted:  MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.  Initially, they are available for use in the Tax/Motor Vehicles and Town Clerk areas in face-to-face transactions.  Soon thereafter, the plan is to bring Code Enforcement, Planning, Assessing, and the Library on board.

And, later this summer, we will offer an on-line payment option, where folks can pay for many services without making a trip to Town Hall.  This will include the ability to make payments via e-check from a checking account.

A third-party convenience fee will apply for using a credit card.  The fee will be disclosed to the cardholder at the time of the transaction.  The cardholder will have the option to decline the fee and make payment via check or cash.

The fee will be 2.45% of the transaction amount, with a $1.50 minimum.  The use of a VISA debit card carries a flat fee of $3.95.  E-checks will cost $1.50.

We are excited to offer this added convenience for our residents.

WHY SEWER? WHY NOW?
For 15 years Windham has been studying the quality of groundwater in North Windham and the effects of residential and commercial development. We've monitored the groundwater, analyzed the data, and have now reached a point where it is important to have a public conversation with Windham residents and business owners in order to prepare for the future.
